What I Asked Mark Driscoll

Tim has a missionary heart for his hometown to love those close to him yet far from God. He is husband to Dusti and father to Nolan, Aiden, and Adelyn - fellow pilgrims to our celestial city.

From Mark Driscoll:

So here’s the link to the “Ask Anything” website. Currently there are over a hundred questions already asked. I decided to jump into the fray by asking the question:

Do you believe that Scripture regulates not only your theology but also your methodology? In other words, do you believe in the regulative principle? If so, to what degree? If not, why not?

I really wanted to rephrase the question, but the limited number of characters did not allow me to elaborate on the question any farther. Do you think this is a fair and important question? If so, go over to the website and vote for my question. The top nine questions will be answered in sermon form by Driscoll in January which will eventually be turned into a book to be published by Crossway.

The reason why I asked this question is because I want to know how Driscoll and Mars Hill decides on what they do or not do in their methodology. Pragmatism? Results? Scriptural warrant? I think that the relationship of being missional and Reformed in regards to a church’s methodology is a legitimate discussion. How does Scripture regulate being missional? In addition, does God prescribe a certain method as acceptable over and against others?

Fair enough, right?

Vote. 🙂

  1. Yours is definitely one of the better questions that has been submitted! Many of the rest seem more like rhetorical accusations or criticisms than honest questions. Then again, the video you posted would indicate that Driscoll is aware of the nature of the often critical blogworld he is requesting questions and votes from, so maybe that is part of the point….

  2. Thanks Paul. Currently my question is #14, much higher than it was this morning (something like #130 or something.

If any of you haven’t voted, I encourage you to do so. Each person gets ten votes a day, so there are plenty of votes to go around. Show the love, baby!

  3. Timmy,

I’ve submitted my own question, #159 to be exact.(taking positions at a church w/ a motive to reform it) I showed love to yours also.
