“I trust the chief reason why I would wish my life to be prolonged is, that I may employ more of my breath in his praise.  But, alas!  while I endeavor to persuade others, that He is the chief among ten thousand and altogether lovely, I seem to be but half persuaded of it myself; I feel my heart so cold and unbelieving.”

John Newton, to Daniel West (August 13, 1773)

  1. While your highlight of the former portion of that quote is most appropriate, I find myself more encouraged by the latter portion of it. Maybe I have more in common with Newton than I thought possible! 🙂 Oh, for the endless grace of God to ignite my heart to praise Christ more than ever before!
