In case you haven’t heard, the New Attitude Conference is beginning today here in Louisville, Kentucky. I will not be attending, though I hope to seize the opportunity to hang out with some friends who will be coming in town for the conference. Actually, my wife and I have already begun doing just that.
Yesterday, Dusti and I had the privilege of picking up and hanging out with the crew of seven from Grace Baptist (Cape Coral) where Tom Ascol is pastor. We spent the evening with Dr. and Mrs. Nettles and enjoyed a wonderful time dinner and fellowship. In case you didn’t know, Dr. Nettles has quite a frisbee toss.
Later in the evening, the Nettles’ called for a talent show. I began thinking to myself, “What in the world can I do as a talent?” Fortunately, the college group had enough talent to entertain us all, and Dr. Nettles captivated us with his rendition of “That’s What I Like About the South.” The Ascol trio of sisters sang a wonderful rendition of “Wonderful Counselor,” and then some of the group also acted out a portion of Pilgrim’s Progress which they have turned into a play for their VBS (very cool stuff). It seems that wherever Dr. Nettles gathers, there shall be a talent show, as Joe reminds us from January. So be forewarned. 😉
Unfortunately, we had to leave around eleven when I realized that I needed to be at work in less than hour. For our new friends, they along with some 3,000 young folks will be beginning what looks to be an excellent conference. Be sure to check out Founders Blog for their coverage of the conference. Also, you can find more live-blogging by Tim Challies and the Rebulation, the blog of Josh Harris’ younger brothers.
Oh, and for the time being, I have been assigned the responsibility of finding husbands for Tom’s three daughters. So be sure to get clearance with me before consideration, okay?
(just kidding ladies) 🙂
Timmy:
Thanks for taking care of the gang of seven. They really enjoyed getting to know you and Dusti. Great post, but…what’s with the parenthetical comment at the end? 😉
Tom,
You have a great group of college kids. There were a blessing to fellowship with. I am hoping to meet up with them again before they head out of town.
As far as the parenthetical comment, well, I knew you were serious, but Tom, I need more than four days! I’m feeling the pressure . . .
