If I had to guess how and where any of my photos would make it into print, I can safely say that I would not imagine them showing up in a music magazine in Seattle. 🙂 But that is what has recently happened. In their April issue, Seattle Sound Magazine has an article entitled “Rock in a Hard Place” which features Mark Driscoll and Mars Hill Church. They contacted me a couple of months back and requested to use some of my photos of Driscoll from the DG National Conference this past October, and I told them that it was fine so long as they sent me a copy of the magazine (go here, here, here, and here for the photos). Well’s here’s how the pictures turned out.
So there you have it. My first four photos in print. Now the article is something worth looking at if you are interested in “Christian” music. Here’s a couple of interesting quotes from the article:
“‘Some people ask me why I don’t support the alternative lifestyle in Seattle,’ he [Driscoll] begins. ‘I do! I am the alternative lifestyle in Seattle. I’m married, have a job, five kids, and don’t do drugs.'”
“Driscoll red-state conservatism has made him a punching bag for this bright blue city [Seattle]. He believes that men should be the heads of their households, that homosexuality is a sin, and that anyone who doesn’t believe in Jesus is going to Hell.”
I must say that I have never met Driscoll in person, though I have a lot of respect for the man. He’s taking hits from the right and left, some legit but most ridiculous. In any case, I look forward to watching how God develops Driscoll in the future and shapes him as a leader among the younger evangelicals and Southern Baptists.
To view some recent work, check out this set which are some engagement photos I took this past Monday of Ben and Julie who are getting hitched in eight days.
1. Awesome on the photos. Great work, and congrats. But if you would have loved me you would have asked for several copies of the mag and sent one to me. Just saying. 😉
2. See Brandi Carlisle on the cover? Read whatever they wrote about her and then go pick up either her debut CD or new one. Great voice and music. You’ll like it.
Thanks Steve. Sorry for not getting you and Joe a copy. But a friend’s a friend forever . . . right?
I have to say, Steve, that you are the music authority in the blogosphere. I don’t know how and where you find all these musicians each Monday, but it’s always fun to see what you point to next. I will take a look at Brandi. Take care man.
