Last weekend, I drove home to my parents house so that I blog in my pajama pants. Okay, not really (but I did). I have a large family on my mother’s side, but most of us are guys (of the cousins 14 are guys and 4 girls). One of my cousins got married in Huntsville, and so the Assyrian festivities were rockin’. The first picture is of the bride (Jessica) and many others in my family doing our Assyrian dances. My uncle brought in a very popular Assyrian band from Michigan to keep the flavor real. Oh, and might I add that I had my first Ruth’s Chris steak (which was the catered meal!)? I needed an additional napkin to catch the drool off my beard. The second picture is Assyrian line-dancing (yeah, you country folk though you invented the idea!). And at random moments, money was being thrown on the dance floor, which as a broke seminary student, was very tempting; yet when I saw this little girl, I just grabbed my camera instead.

You are probably wondering if I made it on the dance floor. Well, those photos are being kept in the P&P vault. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I will however show post one more picture of my bride who is currently six weeks away from the birth of our son! Isn’t she just glowing?

  1. She is a lovely, glowing bride. I pray your baby will be healthy and love and follow Christ (Deut 6:4-9, Psalm 127).

I like the pictures – – especially the little girl scooping up the dollars. . .

  2. Great pics! My wife is Brazilian and they dance a lot there- is it similar with Assyrians? I am just a Polish heritage American (from the South). And I do not dance. Ever. At all. Period. (It is a source of frustration to my wife) I used to say that dancing was anti-Biblical and twisted some Scriptures to fit, but I realized that dancing is not wrong- although where some people go with dancing is obvioulsy wrong. Okay I am rambling. You do a great job with your photos!

  3. Thanks Chris! I really appreciate it.

Pregador, I am not sure the kind of dances Brazilians do, but many of the dances in the Middle East are quite similar. Our family would always gather together every Christmas and New Year’s Eve and dance along with the regular holiday festivities. Now that all of us are growing up and getting married, the dances are not at the weddings. I do wonder, though, the kind of dance David and the Israelites did in their worship to the Lord. My family heritage (the Assyrians, not to be confused with the people of Syria but the OT bad guys) goes 6,500 years (or so I have been told).

James, I am not normally a steak guy, but eating one bite of a Ruth’s Chris is quite an experience. The only other steak I usually consider is the Jack Daniel’s steak at TGI Friday’s (and sometimes the twin medallions at Stony River). The good thing is my wife is a soup and salad gal, so that is a little more easy on the dinner budget. ๐Ÿ™‚
