It’s been a long time since I posted some pictures of my dog Hershey, so I thought I’d catch you up on her daily life. As you can see, she got a haircut yesterday, again making her look like a little lion. This year, Hershey will be ten years old, so the vet recommended that we do a “senior check up.” The pocketbook said no, but how can you resist when your dog looks like this? Although we’ve got her on a low-calorie diet, she is still putting a little weight on, so the vet thinks she might have a thyroid problem. She told me to tell you that she will be okay and not to add her to your prayer requests. 😉 You can see more pictures of Hershey from yesteryear in this set.
In other news, I heard some very disturbing developments about my hometown today which I will post about later next week. Athens, AL has an uncanny way of making it into the news these days. When I was younger, we made it big by being the first county with a “chain-gang.” Most recently it was the attempt to turn the city from “wet” to “dry” (you may have seen that on Fox News about a month ago). On a different note and since it is football season, San Diego Chargers quarterback, Phillip Rivers, is from Athens as well. And if you are really into fiddling, you already know about our annual Fiddlers’ Convention, right?
I must say, I have been feeling the pressure this week with the “king” pronouncement by Challies and then being scandalized in the “sinister seven.” And then 200,000 miles on the car! Talk about drama. To make things a little more boring, I think I am going to post some research and a lame picture of myself in my “new office” (i.e. the left side of our living room couch – I’ll explain later).
Baby Nolan and Dusti are doing great. I am getting a little impatient, though. Feeling our little boy kick and thinking about holding him makes me want him to come out now. If he is anything like what I looked like when I was born, I will need to forewarn the doctors. Let’s just say that I wasn’t bald.
Some of you may remember me mentioning a great gospel conversation with my co-worker Nick last Friday. Well, last night we had another lengthly conversation, but it was more difficult. Instead of the redemptive-historical/biblical approach, I began with the conversion of Augustine (the conversation began with his philosophy class lectures on Platonism, so I transitioned to neo-Platonism to Augustine) and talked about the radical change saving grace brings in a person’s life. In the course of our conversation, he struggled with the idea of hell, that Christians are the only ones going to heaven, and that the Bible is authoritative, true, and inspired by God. Working this time from a more apologetical/philosophical slant made me realize how important it is to bring to the surface the presuppositions and objections and work through their thinking. It also made me realize that the first-order issues such as inerrancy/inspiration of the Bible, exclusivity of Christ, and hell are a really big deal – even to unbelievers.
Alright. Enough rambling. One last word: Alabama 24, Vandy 14. Roll Tide Roll!
Correction -Alabama 24, Vandy 10. Roll Tide Roll!
Man, I think that’s the closest prediction I have ever made. I need to try this more often. 🙂
Man, our red-shirt running back really looks good. He needs at least 20 touches a game.
Dog seeds need to be planted in a shallow dish. Don’t get angry with people who say you have a nice cat. Give them a big nick name like Gargantuo, (Hershey sounds like something they do). Teach them to lower their voice a few octives when they yip so that it sound like a real bark. Don’t let the eyes fool you they are just waiting for you to go to sleep before they rip your throat out.
Who cuts your lion’s hair? We have a pom who needs a groomer!
Adam,
We take Hershey to Springhurst Animal Hospital which is really close to where we live (on the NE side of town). They give her a bath, cut her hair, clip nails, excrete glands, and all that other dog stuff. I think it runs somewhere around $40 (my wife takes care of that).
We are really pleased with the folks there. Our vet is located here as well. Very friendly and helpful. They are located on Brownsboro Road just east of the Gene Snyder (I-265).
Isn’t that the type of dog Michael Vick was using in dog fights?
Sean,
Hershey is a lion. I think Vick used pit bulldogs. As you can she with her intimidating appearance, she scares any pit bulldog away. 😉
Thanks for the info. on your vet/groomer, I’ll check them out. That sounds close to us as well (J Town)
