Taking a break from working through a ton of wedding photos, I thought I’d go back and visit some photos from my backpackin’ trip last fall. If you are new to my blog, this past fall I went to the 2006 Desiring God Pastor’s Conference and then went on a four-day solo backpackin’/photography trip travessing Minnesota’s North Shore and Wisconsin’s Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. It was a fantastic trip, and I haven’t begun to post many of the photos I took during that trip.
What you see here is considered to be the most photographed waterfall in Minnesota. It is the Cascade Falls located in the Cascade River State Park in Minnesota’s North Shore (just off scenic Hwy 61). There is a fantastic cascade of little falls leading up to the 25 foot drop into the pool nestled in the evergreens and black gorge. If you interested in locating just exactly where this waterfall is, I geo-tagged them on my Flickr page. The exif data is also available there. The strong hues stick out because of the stark overcast skies and dew that brought out the brilliance of the evergreens. Actually, the images are practically straight from the camera with the exception of the borders.
This week in blogging has flown by for me. I must say that one of the highlights has been the dialogue with Dr. Terry Tiessen regarding his position on the state of the unevangelized. If you want to see where we are at this point, go to this post and follow the comments. Contrary to so much of the sophomoric perjoratives found in the blogosphere, Dr. Tiessen has given generous time and lengthy answers to questions I feel are very important in a spirit of humility which I really appreciate. Though as you will see, we have disagreements with our understanding of the topic, but in spite of that, I hope to have gained a new friend in the process.
Please stay tuned next week. P&P’s first interview will be posted–an interview you will not want to miss.
This is an amazing picture! You should enter it in some photography contests.
Thanks Kevin! I am very critical of my own photography (probably more than I should), so I feel like I need to get better before I try to enter some contests. But thanks for the encouragement. I might give it a try sometime soon.
BTW, Johnny Depp eh? I did have an “umpa lumpa” answering machine message one time. Just don’t ask me to sing it.
Hi, I love your photography! I’m sure you’ve already thought of this but have you asked Desiring God if they wanted to use some of your pictures for future publications/advertisements and such. I think you could put a scripture on some of these photos and email them to the webmaster and see if he’ll use them with the other ones on it’s front page! They are really great and what a better way to display them than with scripture! I’ve always loved how they do that!
Anyway, I do weddings and engagements and such here in Raleigh. My husband and I go to Treasuring Christ Church downtown, we’ve been a church for not even 2 years yet! Check out their website. http://www.treasuringchristchurch.com We are a bethleham baptist church plant!
Anyway, great pictures and keep up the good work!
Casey,
Thank you for the comment and kind words! I remember Piper coming over there (to Raleigh) a year or two ago to do a DG Regional Conference. I almost went to Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary which would have landed me in your area.
I haven’t asked DG about the usage of the photos as I don’t think my work compares with the stuff they are posting! I know that may sound disingenuous, but I have a long way to go as a photographer to be where I want. I did, by the way, check out some of your photos and enjoyed your work. Your portraitures are very well done. 🙂
I have many more landscapes and nature shots to post from my backpacking trip in MN and WI, so check back for more later. Thanks again for the generous comment!
Great photo TB, I’m looking forward to the rest of them! My wife and I took a trip to see the waterfalls (back when we were dating a few years ago) and then onto Grand Marais. I managed to partially tear my right ACL walking out to the Grand Marais light-house for a photo (I slipped on a water sprayed rock). I only wish I had a camera half as good as yours on that trip to capture some of the views. Since I didn’t, I’m going to live vicariously through your photos!
Big Chris
