O Great God

Tim has a missionary heart for his hometown to love those close to him yet far from God. He is husband to Dusti and father to Nolan, Aiden, and Adelyn - fellow pilgrims to our celestial city.

Continuing to develop the discipline of private worship, I have been  greatly blessed by the music of Sovereign Grace, and in particular, The Valley of Vision.  I picked up this CD a couple of weeks ago and have found myself unwilling to get out of my car as I became enthralled by the beautiful realities the lyrics represented.  As the title denotes, all songs were written under the inspiration of Puritan prayers and devotions, a book that rarely leaves my side.  One song I wanted to share with you is called “O Great God.”  I am most thankful for gifted songwriters like Bob Kauflin and others who are producing such God-glorifying, gospel-centered music.  This CD is powerful and convicting, being wondrously preoccupied with the excellencies of Jesus Christ.  I pray it will be a blessing to you today.

O Great God

O great God of highest heaven
Occupy my lowly heart
Own it all and reign supreme
Conquer every rebel power
Let no vice or sin remain
That resists Your holy war
You have loved and purchased me
Make me Yours forevermore

I was blinded by my sin
Had no ears to hear Your voice
Did not know Your love within
Had no taste for heaven’s joys
Then Your Spirit gave me life
Opened up Your Word to me
Through the gospel of Your Son
Gave me endless hope and peace

Help me now to live a life
That’s dependent on Your grace
Keep my heart and guard my soul
From the evils that I face
You are worthy to be praised
With my every thought and deed
O great God of highest heaven
Glorify Your Name through me

  1. Hi Alyssa. Unfortunately, I do not have the chord charts for this song, but I am sure you can find them from Sovereign Grace Music at the links provided above. The song is available on the “Valley of Vision” CD.

  2. Chords are readily available on the Sovereign Grace Music Website…we played it this last Lord’s Day. Get the piano score with it for a few shekels. It’s worth it.
