Joe Carter on Top 100 Christian Blogs

Written By Tim Brister

Tim has a missionary heart for his hometown to love those close to him yet far from God. He is husband to Dusti and father to Nolan, Aiden, and Adelyn - fellow pilgrims to our celestial city.

Joe Carter of Evangelical Orthodoxy has provided his personal list of the top 100 Christian blogs.  Carter explains that “the selection process is, by necessity, intensely personal and unapologetically subjective. There are a number of Christian blogs that are written by brilliant thinkers and stylists yet, for one reason or another, have not captured my imagination in the way that the following blogs have done. The list is also reflective of my rather narrow field of interests and associations.”  Here is his top 20:

1. Between Two Worlds
2. JollyBlogger
3. The Scriptorium
4. Challies.com
5. WORLD mag blog
6. SmartChristian
7. Prosthesis
8. Parableman
9. (Tie) Boars Head Tavern | Pyromaniacs
10. Acton Institute PowerBlog
11. Hugh Hewitt
12. Al Mohler’s Blog
13. Blogotional
14. Mark D. Roberts
15. Pseudo-Polymath
16. Mere Orthodoxy
17. New Covenant
18. In the Agora
19. ChristianThinker.net
20. Mirror of Justice

I have to say, there are a number of blogs I have never heard of.  There are also some significant bloggers that are not on the top 100 list which speaks to Carter’s subjectivity and “narrow field of interests.”

Now that Carter has outed his top 1oo, would you be willing to share your top ten as they come to your mind?  Perhaps there are some excellent blogs in your list that would be a good pointer to other readers.  So who are you reading?

  2. Fence-sitter. I can’t believe you call, that a tie.

I mean: a tie? Dude. That’s almost an insult — either to TeamPyro or BHT, and we can sort out later who the more-grievously injured party is.

I think you’re just trying to stir up trouble …

  3. Carla,

You’re welcome. Thanks for the comment.

    Thomas,

I will be back in North Alabama in two weeks. I am hoping to visit FBCMS again. Great to hear from you man!

    Cent,

Nah, I’m not a fence sitter. That’s Joe. I do think it was humerous that he put the two of you together given ya’ll’s history. But I do have some pictures to stir up some trouble . . . 😉

    Chase,

Thanks man. No, it’s not a big deal, but I do enjoy hearing from those who read the blog.

  4. Thanks for this post Timmy.

Someone tell Frank the list doesn’t mean anything. It’s Joe’s personal list. I have a different one–but it doesn’t matter. Next thing I’m gonna hear is that Frank is wearing “Phil Johnson is my Homeboy” t-shirts. Wannabe’s… they are everywhere :-).

We all blog for an audience of One… amen?

    I appreciate you Timmy,
Keep on with your excellent work here.
And again thanks for this post.

    Yours for the Master’s use,
    Campi

  5. Andrew,

That’s quite a unique way of making a top ten! Sorry for the comment not getting up earlier. For some reason it got thrown into the spammer.

    Steve,

Thank you for the kind words. You are right. We are to blog for Jesus and Him alone. May God help us to truly blog with a Christ-centered perspective!

  6. I’m with Steve – the list doesn’t mean a whole lot. Of course that doesn’t make it interesting. Personally I’m amazed that he reads 100 Christian blogs. I don’t think I read half that many. Maybe I need to read more.

Joe gets extra points for declaring a tie between the Pyros and BHT. Too funny.

  7. Tim,

Well, one of the things I noticed is that few bloggers consistently provide substantive, engaging posts. You have done that, providing authentic content. There is much to be commended for your content and consistency.

Anyone can build a readership on controversy and prostitute themselves in the blogosphere. You have done neither, and to be as influential as you are in light of that is remarkable. Keep up the great work, friend!

  8. IMHO, a couple of blogs that I always read daily are Brister and Challies. They are at the top of my list… I agree with Tim C. here, how does Joe read one hundred blogs? I can only get through about twenty or so.

He must get all blogged down from time to time :-).
