Gospel Coalition Foundational Documents Online

Tim has a missionary heart for his hometown to love those close to him yet far from God. He is husband to Dusti and father to Nolan, Aiden, and Adelyn - fellow pilgrims to our celestial city.

Update: The new, final version of the documents can now be found here.  The link below does not work.  😉

Reid Monaghan has shared that the Gospel Coalition founding documents are available for download.  The two main documents are their confession and theological vision for ministry, sandwiched by a preamble and conclusion.  I just printed it off and look forward to taking a deeper look at it.  From a brief glance, this looks great.  If you have read it, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.

Other gospel-centered confessions you might want to check out include the Together for the Gospel Statement and The Gospel: An Evangelical Celebration.

  1. hey tim,
love the site. have you tried downloading the gospel coalition pdf? it seems to have been taken down. if you got it, is there any chance of it being posted on your site?

    blessings,

  2. John,

I checked other website and blogs that linked to the same documents, and they are not available either. A couple of them have edited their portion to say something like “the final version of the documents will be made available on the Gospel Coalition website” which is unfinished at this time. Seeing the PDF no longer available and the editing of other bloggers, I am led to think the document was not supposed to be made available at this time.

I remember when the T4G statment came out, and some took the time to type out the entire document to be the first to make it available online. Several such “unauthorized” versions were made available before T4G actually provided their document online.

The chance of me posting it would be only after the approval of the Gospel Coalition guys. Out of respect for their work, that I feel is the least I can do at this time. Should permission be given, I will make a new, updated post with a downloadable PDF.

Sorry for the confusion. Have a wonderful weekend my friend.

  3. thanks for the quick reply tim. i understand about not wanting to send something out before it’s ready. i had to do that with a couple of my papers at sbts. unfortunately, the profs wouldn’t be put off. for some reason they insisted on that due date! anyway, have a great Lord’s day tomorrow.

    blessings,
    john

  4. Yes, they took the doc down as it was not quite finished. I was given the URL by one of the people working on the edits. We were not told in any way not to link to it. I think it started getting some traffic so they pulled the site, and are finishing up the web site for an official launch.

Justin Taylor has all the content flowing on his blog, and Steve McCoy has a vanilla pdf version on his site as well.

But I would probably hold off until the Gospel Coalition site goes live.

  5. Reid,

Sure you weren’t told, you trouble maker! Just kidding.

I posted the updated version on another post. Tim Keller commented on Steve’s blog saying that it is the correct (final) version, so I assume that it won’t be changed, at least for now.

BTW, you have the coolest headers.

  6. Yeah, I like to start trouble 🙂 The gospel coalition web site will be good once up. It had articles and stuff (both old school Puritan type stuff and contemporary) as well as the docs.

Thanks for the props on the headers. A friend of mine put them together for us.
