Initial Thoughts:
Having already written two influential books on Christian higher education (1999 and 2002), Dr. David Dockery has chartered a new chapter in excellence in Christian education. Heirs of a great evangelical tradition of learning, Dockery revisits the legacy of faith-integrated learning matched only by a fresh, pioneering spirit for equipping God’s people through Christian higher education. Having the privilege of knowing Dockery, I have come to realize that this book is not born out of theological abstraction or fanciful ideas; rather, this is a distillery of truth made practical and already proven through the intellectual renaissance at Union University which seeks to change the culture and edify the Church. While the list of endorsements are weighty and the expectations are high, there is no reason to believe that Dockery’s third release on Christian education, Renewing Minds, will not only have an enduring impact in academia but also serve as an impetus for increased theological acumen as Christians young and old embark on the glorious pursuit of loving God with all their minds–a pursuit that finds the footprints of Christian men and women who have changed the world.
Endorsements:
“Visionary and magisterial, Dockery’s big-picture manifesto vividly blocks in the demanding standards, proper cultural contextualizing, and strategic global significance of thoroughgoing Christian higher education today. The Bible-anchored argumentation convinces the head, and the writer’s zeal warms the heart. This is in every way a landmark book!”
– J.I. Packer, Professor of Theology, Regent College
“RENEWING MINDS is a robust and thoughtful defense of the necessity and ideals of Christian higher education, coupled with a shrewd and wise assessment of the challenges and strategies of the future.”
– Alister E. McGrath, Professor of Historical Theology, Oxford University
“There’s no greater need for the church than to equip the coming generation of Christians to engage the postmodern culture. My friend David Dockery has given us an excellent resource for that effort. His new book challenges the academy to make biblical worldview the foundation for not only renewing minds but also developing character. This is a timely and valuable resource.”
– Charles W. Colson, Founder, Prison Fellowship
“David Dockery once again demonstrates why he is one of the leading visionaries in Christian higher education. I can foresee Renewing Minds as the standard for faculty and administrators in Christian colleges and universities in the years ahead. This volume could not be more timely as it assesses the current state well but, with visionary acumen, looks to the future with keen strategic thinking.”
– Thom S. Rainer, President and CEO, LifeWay Christian Resources
“David Dockery continues to define the essential features of Christ-centered education in ways that makes us want to stand up and cheer. At a time when pragmatism seems to rule, Dockery exhorts us to keep moving ahead with our eyes on the horizon. This work will certainly become the standard for explaining the vision for all of us in Christ-centered education.”
– Bill Brown, President, Cedarville University
“David Dockery is a rare combination of serious scholar, experienced academic leader, and Christian intellectual. IN RENEWING MINDS he combines these roles and sets out a bold agenda for Christian higher education. This is an important and timely book that will challenge Christians to recover an authentically Christian vision of education, intellect, and learning.”
– R. Albert Mohler, Jr., President, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

David S. Dockery is President of Union University, SBC statesman, first-rate scholar, and die-hard Alabama fan. For more information about Dockery, go here, and to read my interview from earlier this year, go here.
Its always good to see Dr. Dockery picking up his pen again.
BTW, Timmy, I’m going to shoot you an email about your Carl F.H. Henry research. I’m about to start a study on his theological method and was hoping you could provide some good sources.
Yes. I look forward to taking a closer look at Dr. Dockery’s work in the future.

re:”a die-hard Alabama fan”
it’s good to see that even in praising Dockery, you are still honest about his flaws
Andrew,
I knew an Auburn faithful would catch that! I always thought those on the plains had an “holier-than-thou” mentality. So would that make you the Pharisee and Dockery the publican? 🙂
