The upcoming Baptist Identity Conference is something we have been talking about for some time, and I am excited to be able to attend this year. If you are going and would like to meet up, let me know. I think this should conference will be engaging and informative, regardless of where you find yourself in the SBC.
Recently, UU provided a PDF brochure which includes the schedule for the conference. I have typed the schedule for you below. There is still time to register, but you must do it really soon. This is definitely one of those conferences worth your time, money, and involvement. I hope to see you there.
Here’s the schedule:

4:00 p.m. Mike Day: “The Future of Baptist Associations and State Conventions”
7:00 p.m. Frank Page: “The Future of the Cooperative Program”
8:00 p.m. Thom Rainer: “Evangelism and Church Growth in the Southern Baptist Convention”
9:00 p.m. Coffee House for Bloggers
:: Friday, February 16, 2007 ::

10:00 a.m. Timothy George: “The Future of Baptist Identity in a Post-Denominational World”
I won’t be going this year, but that lineup looks like an very interesting mix.
I’m most interested in what Dr. Thornbury has to say on those “Angry Young Men of the SBC”! Do you think it is any coincidence that he is also hosting the Coffee House for Bloggers? 🙂
By the way, who are the “best-known bloggers in Baptist life” the promo refers to?
Adam,
Yeah, the conference offers a blend of the old with the new. I hope there can be some good things come out of this, in particular a consensus on Baptist identity and gospel-centered cooperation.
As far as the last question goes, I will have to leave that with Dr. Thornbury.
Not on topic, but searching Amazon, I can’t see any books that Jerry Vines has written on calvinism. Do you know where he lays out his views?
G.F.
Vines hour long message on Calvinism is no longer online. The announcement I wrote for SBF about Vines can be found here.

I think that it’s interesing that Dr. Paige Patterson is speaking on “What Contemporary Baptists Can Learn from Anabaptists.” It seems that Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary- under Dr. Patterson’s direction and Dr. Emir Caner’s teaching- is really trying to establish the (rather dubious) historical connection between the Anabaptists and modern Baptists, who are more directly descended from the Puritan movement. Anyway, it will be interesting to hear what he has to say.
